Welcome to my first blog post as a ‘retiree’. I used to say when I was working full-time that shopping is ‘retail therapy.’ But now that I’m not working for a living anymore, I would not need any therapy and can just become a champion shopper!
A lot of people asked me how boomer women should dress – Look like fashionistas? Always wear black to cover up the imperfections? Or wear bright colours to defy the aging process?
My personal choice, whether in the past as a career woman or now as a full-time blogger, is to be city-chic. I never like ‘frilly’ dresses that are hyper-feminine in style. Nor would I ever advocate women looking like men dressed in power suits in the board room. I’m always an urban person and will continue to be drawn to big cities before or after retirement. So while city-chic could mean business attire for some women, it could mean the latest fashion for others. Most boomers and retirees made the mistake of dressing in ‘can’t-be-bothered’ clothes with no make-up and looking like somebody who have just rolled out of bed.
Your wardrobe speaks a lot about your personal brand. Boomers, in their Act II, should be stylish, fashion-conscious, but never ultra-trendy. I’ve posted before on this blog that if your wardrobe emulates your daughter’s, then it’s probably not appropriate. Simple, stylish and elegant with quality superseding quantity is my best advice to fellow boomers.
Let’s hope I can find a lot of gems in the stylish mecca Milano!
